The Department of Transportation (DOT) plans, develops, operates, and maintains transportation facilities, services, and related systems which contribute to the livability and economic health of the City. The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill multiple vacancies in the Infrastructure Maintenance division. Requirements

• Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate).
• Two (2) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience (for Construction Inspector II).
• Four (4) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience, including two (2) years in any combination of the following: construction or infrastructure inspection, drafting or reviewing plans and specifications, materials sampling and testing, traffic engineering, or surveying (for Associate Construction Inspector).
• Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an Associate Degree in engineering technology, construction management or closely related field from an accredited junior college or two (2) years of college coursework in engineering technology or related subjects courses may be substituted for two (2) years of the construction trades or construction inspection experience (for Associate Construction Inspector).

Responsibilities

• Contract management, spending/tracking budget appropriations, and contractor coordination efforts
• Reviewing and verifying accuracy of invoices
• Preparing documents to pay contractor invoices
• Visually inspecting projects
• Validating work of contractors in the field
• Maintaining daily inspection logs and photos
• Ensuring all work is completed according to City of San Jose standards and specifications
• Coordinating new projects with Public Works inspectors and DOT’s structure & Landscape Designer
• Mitigating conflicts with residents, businesses and contractors
