In the role of Kansas City Construction Inspection Intern, we'll count on you to assist an Inspector conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations or pipelines. You will monitor, record and inspect progress on construction projects, and assist an Inspector coordinate field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing in-place soil compaction testing. You will receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress. You will also assist an Inspector perform measurements and calculations necessary to determine quantity of work performed and materials required, and check layout and dimensions of work by utilizing basic tape measures, rules and other instruments. You will read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. You will compose reports with a daily log of construction activities, field inspections, tests performed, personnel assigned, equipment used, weather conditions, and other information pertinent to the progress of the work. You will enter and record information regarding construction projects into computer programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test.
