Construction Field Engineer
About The Position
Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects. Michael Baker International is seeking a Construction Field Engineer to support transportation infrastructure projects throughout PennDOT District 8. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of highway, bridge, roadway, and transportation construction projects by providing field support, construction oversight, documentation, quality assurance, and coordination services. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside contractors, PennDOT representatives, and project teams to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience supporting transportation, highway, bridge, roadway, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, and field documentation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering field, preferred, not required.
- Experience working on PennDOT transportation projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration and inspection of transportation construction projects involving highways, bridges, roadways, intersections, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, PennDOT standards, and contract requirements.
- Perform field observations and verify quantities for completed work.
- Review construction schedules and monitor project progress.
- Prepare daily reports, project documentation, and construction records.
- Coordinate with contractors, PennDOT representatives, utility companies, and project stakeholders.
- Assist with requests for information (RFIs), change orders, and field issue resolution.
- Support quality assurance and quality control efforts, including material testing and documentation review.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate construction updates to project team members.
- Monitor job site safety practices and report potential safety concerns.
- Utilize engineering software and project management tools to track project activities and documentation.
- Travel to project sites throughout PennDOT District 8 as required.
