About The Position

The MEP Construction Field Engineer will serve as the site project team’s field-level subject matter expert in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for industrial utility systems supporting brownfield construction. This position will support the rehabilitation and modernization of existing facility infrastructure as well as installation of new systems required to support advanced manufacturing operations. The MEP Construction Field Engineer will work closely with the internal site project team, design team, general contractor, trade contractors, equipment vendors, commissioning personnel, and internal manufacturing stakeholders to ensure that the project is being executed to meet schedule deadlines and in accordance with the drawings a specifications. The Field Engineer will be expected to have working knowledge of industrial infrastructure to support the Superintendent in evaluating field conditions, coordinating construction activities, tracking physical progress, and driving resolution of technical and construction issues before they affect the project schedule.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; significant equivalent industrial construction experience may be considered.
• 3-5+ years of MEP construction experience with a strong preference for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
• Demonstrated experience with existing/brownfield industrial facilities.
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, P&IDs, mechanical plans, equipment schedules, specifications, shop drawings, and control diagrams.
• Experience reviewing RFIs, submittals, coordination drawings, and technical documentation.
• Experience tracking installed construction quantities and evaluating field production.
• Experience coordinating multiple MEP trades within congested industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of construction quality-control, inspection, testing, commissioning, and turnover processes.
• Ability to independently identify field problems and drive them toward resolution.

• Experience with medium-voltage power distribution, substations, switchgear, MCCs, industrial HVAC, compressed air, process utilities, fire protection, and controls.

• Experience with equipment shutdowns, electrical outages, tie-ins, startup, and commissioning.

• Experience with defense, aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, heavy manufacturing, or similarly complex industrial facilities.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, mechanical/plumbing codes, and applicable industrial construction standards.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the Superintendent to drive execution of the construction schedule.
• Understand MEP milestones, equipment installation dates, utility availability dates, commissioning milestones, and critical-path activities.
• Participate in weekly construction planning and coordination meetings.
• Perform weekly field walks and quantify installed construction progress.
• Track measurable quantities including conduit, cable, piping, ductwork, equipment installation, terminations, testing, etc. as necessary to support production metrics tracking.
• Validate contractor-reported progress against actual installed work.
• Support three- and six-week look-ahead planning.
• Identify design, material, equipment, manpower, access, safety, or quality constraints affecting upcoming work.
• Work with the Superintendent and contractors to develop recovery plans when activities fall behind schedule.
• Review MEP RFIs for technical completeness, constructability, field applicability, and potential schedule impacts.
• Maintain a log of outstanding RFIs affecting upcoming field activities and drive timely resolution.
• Review MEP submittits such as shop drawings, coordination drawings, product data, and technical documentation.
• Evaluate proposed equipment against existing facility infrastructure and project requirements.
• Verify approved RFIs and submittals are incorporated into field installations and documented as a redline set to be converted to as-builts.
• Coordinate technical issues between field conditions, design requirements, existing infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment requirements.
• Identify long-lead MEP equipment and material concerns that could impact construction.
• Verify construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
• Verify required inspections, testing, checklists, preparatory meetings, and quality documentation are completed in advance of scheduled construction.
• Participate in preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections as appropriate.
• Identify deficient or nonconforming work and coordinate corrective actions.
• Support equipment startup, functional testing, commissioning, punch list, and turnover activities.
• Verify appropriate documentation is developed for existing equipment that is inspected, tested, repaired, or returned to service.
• Verify required Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), permits, lockout/tagout plans, energized work planning, lift plans, confined-space documentation, and other applicable safety requirements are completed prior to work.
• Ensure required safety documentation and approvals are addressed sufficiently in advance so they do not become schedule constraints.
