About The Position

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for drilling and blasting projects by reviewing plans, specifications, and geotechnical data. This full-time, hybrid role in Winchester, Virginia involves performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing labor, material, and equipment costs, and developing competitive bids and proposals. The Estimator will collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and engineers to clarify scope, assess risks, and refine pricing strategies. Daily tasks include soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes, maintaining historical cost data, and updating estimate templates and databases. The Estimator will also participate in client meetings, support contract negotiations, and assist with project handoff to operations to ensure a smooth transition from bid to execution.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills for performing quantity takeoffs, cost breakdowns, and risk assessments.
  • Proficiency with estimating or construction management software, as well as MS Excel and other standard office tools.
  • Solid understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, safety, and compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ability to work on-site in Winchester, Virginia and occasionally visit project locations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with drilling and blasting or heavy civil work is highly preferred.
  • Previous estimating experience in construction, mining, or a related industry is preferred.
