About The Position

Executive Human Resource Service is presenting an opportunity with a privately owned construction company, a leading domestic Engineering, Construction, and General Contractor in the United States. This company offers general contracting, construction management, and design-build services. They are seeking an experienced Construction – Estimating Manager for a highly respected commercial general contractor known for delivering complex, high-profile construction projects. This role is crucial to the preconstruction and project development team, focusing on creating accurate, competitive, and comprehensive estimates for major commercial construction projects. The position requires understanding project plans, evaluating scopes and constructability, engaging trade partners, identifying value-creation opportunities, and collaborating with operations and field leadership. The Estimating Manager will lead complex estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals, utilizing construction knowledge, market intelligence, and best practices to enhance project value and profitability. This role involves close collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and field personnel, with opportunities to gain exposure to self-perform operations and field execution. This is an ideal role for an estimator seeking greater influence in project pricing, planning, procurement, and construction. Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional construction estimating experience.
  • Commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing estimates for competitive bids and/or negotiated proposals.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and trade requirements.
  • Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and quantity surveys.
  • Experience soliciting, evaluating, and coordinating subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage scopes of work across multiple construction trades.
  • Understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, logistics, and field operations.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Experience utilizing construction estimating software and related construction technology.
  • Ability to develop General Requirements estimates.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to travel overnight periodically and work non-traditional hours when project demands require it.
  • Must be US Citizen or Authorized to Work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of combined commercial construction and estimating experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with self-perform estimating and labor productivity.
  • Experience with Lean construction principles and processes.
  • Experience with MEP systems and building component analysis.
  • Familiarity with Lens, Revit, ASE, or comparable construction technology.
  • Experience supporting major commercial, complex, or technically sophisticated construction projects.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education and directly related construction experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
  • Performing detailed quantity surveys from project plans and maintaining estimate documentation.
  • Reviewing and interpreting project drawings and specifications.
  • Developing material, labor, subcontractor, vendor, and other project cost summaries.
  • Managing subcontractor and vendor bid solicitation and coordination.
  • Developing scopes of work and responsibility matrices for all applicable trades.
  • Coordinating the distribution of plans and specifications to trade partners.
  • Evaluating subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness, competitiveness, and scope alignment.
  • Tracking value-creation opportunities from initial identification through incorporation into the estimate and project documentation.
  • Incorporating project schedules, logistics, phasing, and staging requirements into estimates.
  • Assisting with analysis of building components and MEP systems.
  • Working with operations and field personnel to identify more economical and constructible approaches.
  • Participating in bid-day summaries and procurement presentations.
  • Preparing professional, accurate, and comprehensive deliverables for major estimates.
  • Supporting opportunities to improve project profitability through sound cost analysis and understanding of applicable fees, insurance structures, and rates.
  • Providing mentorship and training to other members of the estimating team.
  • Gaining and applying field operational knowledge through project-site support as opportunities arise.
