About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Construction Engineering Senior Inspector to assist engineers with Water/Wastewater and Utility construction projects in Tampa, FL. JMT is a 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals, providing a wide range of services across the United States. This role involves ensuring compliance with approved plans, codes, and specifications, providing field engineering and construction management support, documenting inspection activities, and coordinating material testing. The position requires effective communication with clients, contractors, and project teams, and may involve managing subordinate field staff. Immigration sponsorship is not available, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • High school degree/equivalent or better
  • 8+ years of related experience on field projects.
  • Strong understanding of municipal specifications, governmental agencies (FDOT) specifications, details, and practices.
  • Must be able to read plans and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices.
  • Willing to travel within the state of FL as needed.
  • Strong Computer proficiency.
  • Strong in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Active driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role.
  • Experience and understanding of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, general underground utility construction and rehabilitation works.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of water/wastewater, stormwater, pump stations, utilities and related facilities construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans and codes - to include water and sewer utilities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of roadway infrastructure including earthwork, asphalt, concrete, drainage, flatwork, etc. to verify compliance with approved plans and contract documents.
  • Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests and change orders) as needed on site and in office.
  • Ensure that construction workmanship and materials adhere to established industry standards and meet project specifications.
  • Accurately document all construction inspection activities by creating daily reports and maintaining organized, detailed, and up to date field files.
  • Oversee and coordinate material testing activities to ensure materials used meet project specifications.
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation.
  • Participate in close out activities, including preparation of deficiency lists and final inspection reports.
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, and project teams including other disciplines, such as cost estimators, designers, and other engineers.
  • Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues.
  • Operate and have the ability to upload, download and manage files in a Project Management Information System, PMIS, i.e. Procore, eBuilder etc.
  • Provide input and participate in client, contractor and staff progress meetings.
  • Gathers and maintains record documents.
  • Makes field notes and computations.
  • Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries.
  • Manage subordinate field staff and support office engineering staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
