About The Position

MBP is seeking a Construction Engineer II to join their team in the Columbia, Maryland area. This role is for a full-time position focused on leading projects that make a difference in the community. The ideal candidate will have education and experience in engineering or construction management with demonstrated increasing responsibility. As a Construction Engineer II, you will take a lead role in planning and managing small to mid-size projects, or lead a sub-group on larger projects. You will collaborate with Project Managers, build relationships with clients and team members, and contribute to strategic project decisions across various sectors including federal, laboratory facilities, data centers, state, municipal, K-12 school, higher education, and healthcare projects.

Requirements

• Experience in design or construction work activities, with demonstrated increasing responsibility, of the same or similar type sought for this position
• Experience may be in the following sectors: federal, laboratory facilities, data centers, state, municipal, K-12 school, higher education, or healthcare projects
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field
• Knowledge of engineering principles, principles of construction management and project controls, with specialized knowledge of one or more areas including scheduling, cost estimating, documentation, contract administration, or construction techniques
• Thorough understanding of several of MBP's services
• Strong understanding of building codes, laws, and regulations that might affect assigned projects
• Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports
• Ability to coordinate with clients
• Ability to carry out assignments from conception to completion
• Ability to work within budgets and meet deadlines
• Ability to identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences
• Skilled in more than one of the following services: pre-construction, constructability and design review, critical path method schedules, cost estimating, project budgeting, financial analysis, delay analysis, construction quality assurance, automated control systems, quantity take-offs, and closeouts
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to utilize computers (including Microsoft Office software, BlueBeam, and PMIS) and other specialized equipment
• Ability to understand and track project schedules
• Ability to communicate issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers (i.e., contractors, owners, subconsultants, and fellow Team Members)
• Ability to obtain and maintain industry certifications specific to duties assigned
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team
• Lift/carry 50 pounds (occasionally) and 20 pounds (frequently)
• Stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions
• Safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain
• Project management responsibility in close liaison with the Project Manager on small to mid-size projects
• Lead role in planning and managing small to mid-size projects and/or leading a sub-group on a large project
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

• FE/EIT certification
• CMIT certification
• Working toward other certifications such as PE, CCM, CCE, or PSP is preferred
• Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or obtain within 3 months of hire
