About The Position

Stable full-time leadership role with Dickinson WCID supporting critical community infrastructure. This role is a hands-on leadership position—leading from the field while working alongside your team to deliver safe, high-quality work. At Dickinson WCID, our construction crews maintain and build critical water and wastewater infrastructure serving thousands of residents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in utilities, construction, or similar field
  • Proven ability to lead and direct a field crew
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
  • Participation in on-call rotation
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Required vaccinations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in water/wastewater utilities
  • Knowledge of trench safety and confined space entry
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate daily activities of a 2–10 person construction crew
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet project timelines
  • Serve as on-site leader responsible for safety, quality, and execution
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members
  • Lead and perform installation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater systems
  • Oversee installation of mains, services, hydrants, valves, and manholes
  • Troubleshoot system issues and initiate corrective actions
  • Respond to stoppages, overflows, and emergency repairs
  • Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, and excavators
  • Ensure safe operation and proper use of all tools and machinery
  • Perform inspections and minor equipment maintenance
  • Enforce trench safety, confined space, traffic control, and PPE standards
  • Ensure proper job site setup (barricades, cones, signage)
  • Submit and manage 811 locate requests
  • Stop work and correct unsafe conditions when necessary
  • Communicate professionally with residents during field operations
  • Respond to service requests and emergency situations
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Maintain crew time records and daily logs
  • Complete work orders, service reports, and incident documentation
  • Communicate progress and issues to leadership
