About The Position
The Woodbury, Long Island office of Kaufman Dolowich, a full-service National Law firm with more than 250 attorneys across 16 offices and over 25 practice areas, is actively seeking an attorney to join our growing Construction Commercial Litigation group. Kaufman Dolowich’s construction law practice is well-known for providing comprehensive legal services to the construction industry. By handling the full range of issues involved in both private and public construction projects, each attorney understands the broad picture while focusing on the minute details that can often have immense repercussions. Our construction attorneys handle issues at all phases of a construction project and every segment of construction law to service industry Owners, Prime Contractors, Subcontractors, Engineering/Design Professionals in areas such as - claims including those for payment, extra work, delay, liens, bond claims; contract creation, review, and negotiation; business formation/structure; union/labor; public contracting integrity; compliance; and diversity/DMWBE. By delivering the full scope of services, we can see the big picture and take proactive steps to mitigate risk. We help developers, project owners, construction managers, contractors and trade contractors limit exposure to liability and loss through effective construction administration. Kaufman Dolowich offers attorneys the opportunity to gain extensive, hands-on litigation experience while taking on meaningful responsibility from the outset. Attorneys are encouraged to take ownership of their matters, develop their advocacy skills, and play an active role in all stages of litigation.
Requirements
- 1+ years of commercial litigation with experience in construction disputes
- Experience in construction contract issues and review
- JD degree or equivalent with superior academic credentials
- Admittance to practice in New York
- Superior academic credentials
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously
Nice To Haves
- Experience in construction disputes between owners, general contractors, and subcontractors, which concern breach of contract claims, delay claims, mechanic’s lien claims, and bond claims
- Experience in construction defect, NY Labor Law 240 and personal injury defense does not apply to the position
Responsibilities
- Assess information and documents provided by clients
- Prepare pleadings
- Participate in and oversee written discovery
- Perform research relating to case issues
- Take and defend depositions
- Prepare and argue motions, including summary judgment motions in both State and Federal Courts throughout New York
- Attend and defend and/or prosecute trials and other hearings
- Assist with contract review and preparation
