About The Position

We are seeking a Manager of Contractor & Construction to oversee contractors performing rail infrastructure construction, maintenance, and emergency response work. This role is crucial for expanding our service offerings, ensuring contractor accountability, and managing projects within the freight rail, short line, and industrial sectors. The position involves managing projects where RailPros directly hires contractors or where RailPros manages projects for clients who have hired the contractor. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or related field OR 5+ years of experience in the rail industry (preference to field operations).
  • Expertise in the field, understanding customer needs and project goals for service/safety enhancement.
  • Ability to stay current on the latest technologies and leverage lessons learned to develop practical solutions for rail networks.
  • Ability to apply logical thought processes and organize resources to solve issues and meet commitments.
  • Ability to make decisions and seize opportunities in the context of business objectives.
  • Ability to partner effectively with others to achieve results.
  • Ability to satisfy internal and external customer expectations and develop customer partnerships.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications (e-mail, text) and standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to qualify for necessary background and safety checks mandated by clients.
  • Ability to pass a RailPros driving background audit.
  • Proficient in civil, structures, and tracks.
  • Capable of balancing multiple responsibilities and concurrent activities and initiatives.

  • Previous Railroad certifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide constructability reviews and develop/analyze construction phasing from the railroads’ perspective.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors and railroad managers.
  • Read and understand construction and phasing plans.
  • Provide sound and economical solutions to track, subgrade, and drainage facilities issues.
  • Conduct inspections via walking and other means as necessary.
  • Develop capital and maintenance work projects to reduce and control railway-associated risks.
  • Prioritize site interventions based on site inspection, monitoring, and risk assessments.
  • Verify quantities of materials received or used.
  • Verify distances to ensure accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports as required.
  • Maintain standards for contractor accountability.
  • Follow standardized safety and documentation protocols to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Drive technological innovation.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
