About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Construction and Business Litigation Paralegal to join our legal team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive paralegal and litigation support to attorneys handling a broad range of construction, commercial, and business litigation matters, including contract disputes, mechanic's liens, payment disputes, construction defects, business disputes, and related litigation. Requirements

  • 3+ years of paralegal experience, preferably with significant construction, commercial, business, and/or civil litigation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of New York State and New York court litigation procedures preferred.
  • Experience with construction contracts, mechanic's liens, payment disputes, construction defects, commercial contracts, business disputes, or related matters strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a legal team.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with legal document management and case management systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic court filing systems preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all client and firm interactions.
  • Paralegal certificate or relevant education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive paralegal support to attorneys handling construction, commercial, and business litigation matters.
  • Assist with all phases of litigation from case inception through trial and post-trial proceedings.
  • Assist with preparation, organization, and maintenance of litigation files.
  • Prepare and organize pleadings, motions, discovery demands and responses, notices, correspondence, affidavits, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with preparation and service of mechanic's liens, lien enforcement matters, payment claims, and related filings.
  • Review and organize construction contracts, subcontracts, change orders, purchase orders, invoices, payment applications, schedules, project records, photographs, plans, specifications, and other construction-related documentation.
  • Assist with business and commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, business disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, and other commercial matters.
  • Assist attorneys with document review and discovery, including collecting, organizing, indexing, and summarizing large volumes of documents.
  • Prepare discovery materials, including document demands, interrogatories, notices for discovery and inspection, and responses.
  • Assist with deposition preparation, including preparation of exhibits, chronologies, witness materials, and deposition binders.
  • Assist with preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, court appearances, and trials.
  • Conduct legal and factual research as directed by attorneys.
  • Prepare case chronologies, summaries, timelines, and other materials to assist attorneys in evaluating matters.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, insurance representatives, experts, business owners, and other professionals as directed.
  • Assist with scheduling depositions, examinations before trial, inspections, conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and other litigation events.
  • Maintain accurate calendars and monitor court, statutory, and case-related deadlines.
  • Assist with electronic filing and service of court documents.
  • Perform docket and case status reviews and ensure files remain current.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with clients and other parties involved in matters.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness materials, demonstrative evidence, and trial binders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive client and case information.
  • Perform additional paralegal and administrative duties as needed to support the department and firm.
