About The Position

The Construction Accounting Manager reports to the Senior Controller and plays a key role in providing comprehensive accounting support for Evergreen Construction Company. This position is responsible for financial reporting, cash flow planning, project accounting, and supporting year-end audits. Major areas of focus include financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, monthly and year-end close, financial statement preparation, monthly billings, and KPI development and tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 5–7 years of experience in the construction industry, or a combination of construction industry and public accounting experience with a construction focus.
  • PC proficiency (Windows environment) and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Working knowledge of RealPage Accounting and Job Costing software is a plus.
  • Understanding of AIA accounting documents such as G702 & G703.
  • Understanding of certified payroll and related requirements.
  • Understanding of contract change orders and owner change orders.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency; results-oriented with the ability to work under deadlines.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization, from project teams to executive leadership and ownership.
  • Exercises sound judgment and makes decisions based on accurate and timely analysis; anticipates issues before they become problems.
  • Maintains a high standard of accuracy and thoroughness in financial reporting, reconciliations, and job cost tracking.
  • Drives work to completion with a strong sense of urgency; manages competing deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Builds effective working relationships across finance, construction, and operations teams to support shared goals.
  • Adjusts quickly to shifting priorities and evolving needs in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CCIFP designation preferred but not required; candidates with equivalent construction accounting experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP for owners and outside parties.
  • Analyze financial results and present findings to ownership.
  • Manage WIP/CIP reporting and oversee the Construction Bookkeeper on draw processes and subcontractor lien waivers, as directed by the VP of Construction and Project Managers.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Construction, project managers, and the finance team to establish realistic budgets, track variances, and forecast cash flow.
  • Establish KPIs and partner with the finance team to track and report on performance metrics.
  • Oversee vendor contract compliance, AIA progress billings, and invoice workflows.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the external independent accounting firm; prepare workpaper packages for externally reviewed financial statements.
  • Support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Senior Controller, CFO, and VP of Construction.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the CFO, Senior Controller, and Evergreen Construction Company President.
