About The Position

The Conservation Foreman at the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area is the lead worker for maintenance activities in a large park district. This district includes the main park at Oahe Downstream RA and 10 secondary park locations north on the Oahe Reservoir. The areas possess numerous facilities, including 294 campsites, camping cabins, a lodge, comfort stations, boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, an Off-Highway Vehicle Area (OHV), an archery range, and a rifle range. This position is responsible for organizing and scheduling staff to perform daily and weekly work across all these areas and facilities, and for maintaining clear records of work completed. The candidate must be able to work in various outdoor park locations throughout the year and be physically capable of meeting the job's challenges both on and off the water. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing district priorities are essential. The role involves scheduling and organizing work assignments for a Conservation Technician, up to 12 seasonal employees, and up to 15 park volunteers.

Requirements

Ability to work at a number of outdoor park locations throughout the year.
Physically able to meet the challenges of the job on and off the water.
Ability to be flexible and change in work direction with the district changing priorities.
Ability to schedule and organize work assignments for a Conservation Technician and up to 12 seasonal employees and up to 15 park volunteers.
Possess or be able to obtain SD Dept of DANR Pesticide & Noxious Weed Applicator certification within 6 months of employment.
Good working knowledge of equipment, facility and grounds maintenance.
Ability to effectively and efficiently direct the daily work assignments of the district's maintenance staff.
Knowledge of equipment operation, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of plumbing.
Knowledge of basic electrical trouble-shooting.
Knowledge of janitorial cleaning.
Knowledge of carpentry.
Knowledge of welding.
Knowledge of concrete work.
Knowledge of landscaping, tree planting and grass seeding.
Knowledge of operation of region's aerial lift for tree pruning.
Knowledge of chainsaw operation, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of tree, shrub and grass identification.
Knowledge of general facility and grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of other forms of district and regional equipment operation and maintenance.
Skill to perform routine plumbing repairs and trouble-shooting.
Skill to perform minor electrical repairs.
Skill to oversee and perform the janitorial cleaning of park facilities.
Skill to perform basic carpentry and welding repairs and new construction.
Skill to load and unload equipment that is transported throughout the district.
Skilled equipment operator of loaders, commercial mowers, small tractors, skid steer and attachments to large trucks and trailers.
Skill to operate dump trucks.
Skill to order supplies and materials.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment in varying environments.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the outdoor work environments.
Ability to train others on the safe and proper operation of equipment and facility cleaning.
Ability to assign tasks to others and maintain clear written records of work completed.
Ability to prioritize work tasks and staff assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively with park users and staff.
Ability to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
