Congregate Residential Counselor - Per Diem
About The Position
The Home for Little Wanderers, Waltham House is looking for Per Diem Residential Counselors to make a difference in the lives of youth who have experienced trauma and/or who have significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Join a dynamic team of professionals implementing our trauma informed care model. The Home for Little Wanderers' Waltham House is a group home program designed to provide a safe and supportive living environment for up to 12 LGBTQ youth ages 14-18. The Home offers extensive training and support to all new staff and many opportunities for career and professional development.
Requirements
- Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID
- Being physically active for an 8-10 hour shift
- Participating in verbal de-escalation and physical intervention with youth
- Multi-tasking in a changing and fast-paced treatment environment
- Receiving and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process
- Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required
- 1 year or more prior experience working with youth preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- A passion for making a positive impact on the lives of kids
Responsibilities
- Support youth in developing the skills they need to successfully transition home to families.
- Teach age-appropriate life skills, coping skills, and social skills through modeling, counseling, and other techniques.
- Participate in groups and activities designed to enhance youth growth and development.
- Participate in both on-site and off-site recreational/educational activities.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment.
