About The Position

The Conflicts Analyst is responsible for running timely, accurate, new client business, supplemental, pre-clearance, pending laterals, business development, and other types of conflict of interest requests. Successful candidates will understand legal conflicts, related ethical rules and current developments; review conflict requests and obtain clarity on parties and positions; perform data analysis and identify possible issues.

Requirements

  • Proficiency using on-line research tools such as Westlaw, the Internet, and various other resources.
  • Ability to apply research and analysis techniques and methodologies to assigned projects for conflicts.
  • Ability to initiate, follow through all details, and complete time sensitive assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Business writing skills including knowledge of business English, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, and spelling as necessary to present routine business information in established formats.
  • Good and timely oral communication skills as necessary to communicate and coordinate with others on routine but varied issues and work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Excel).
  • Excellent time management skills and communication skills, including the ability to explain technological processes, e.g., Upfront, in simple terms to teach others.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented and reliable.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Follows all policies and procedures.
  • Able to adapt, be flexible, and deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Upfront preferred, but not required.
  • Law firm experience highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and disseminates lateral conflicts information, following up with lateral candidates, attorneys, recruiting, and administrative teams as needed to complete due diligence and ensure that files are accurate, complete, and current.
  • Creates, reviews, and analyzes conflict of interest reports for lateral candidates and related matters using Upfront and other firm systems.
  • Reviews lateral candidate questionnaires, client and matter lists, portable business information, related party information, and other materials to clarify parties, roles, relationships, and potential areas of concern.
  • Tracks waivers, consents, engagement letters, screen requirements, and institutional knowledge identified during lateral conflicts review.
  • Monitors pending lateral conflicts requests in Upfront and follows up to move requests through the review process in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and updates conflicts databases and related records to ensure accurate party information, matter history, notes, and search results.
  • Provides support to attorneys and others regarding ethical walls, confidentiality screens, access restrictions, and related compliance steps.
  • Conducts research using third-party business and legal research resources, including Lexis, public records, corporate family tree resources, and other sources, to verify parties and identify related entities.
  • Participates in or manages special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Overtime and/or “after hours” may be required on occasion.
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned.
