About The Position

Performs a variety of semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance, and carpentry. This role involves assisting in concrete construction, carpentry, and maintenance work on curbs, gutters, waterways, sidewalks, and flatwork. The position also includes installing and maintaining sprinkler systems and landscaping, maintaining the integrity of the work area with traffic control and safety equipment, removing snow from roadways, and performing installation and repair of storm drain lines, catch basins, and cleanout boxes. General repairs as needed are also part of the responsibilities, with the possibility of operating some heavy equipment.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience related to these duties.
  • Must attend flagging training and certify within sixty (60) days and recertify every two (2) years.
  • Must attend a Defensive Driving course within the first two (2) weeks of hire and recertify as required by County policy.
  • Must attend and be forklift certified within four (4) months (120 days) of hire.
  • A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire.
  • A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire OR obtain the Class B CDL within thirty (30) days of hire date to operate a Salt Lake County vehicle.
  • Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire.
  • Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.
  • Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
  • May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of concrete, structural, precast construction, finishing, and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of proper safety measures and precautions for concrete and maintenance work, snow removal work, and the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MUTCD rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Blue stakes system and markings.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment necessary to perform highway/flood control construction, maintenance, and snow removal work.
  • Knowledge of pipe installation specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of work zone traffic control systems, short and long term.
  • Knowledge of computer programs to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of density and moisture content for proper compaction.
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures and vendor contracts.

Responsibilities
