About The Position

Performs the pouring, removal, and finishing of concrete on roads, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks throughout the City. This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt, union represented position graded BC06. The role involves identifying and removing broken concrete, ensuring concrete forms are set correctly, and achieving appropriate concrete depth. It also includes pouring concrete, finishing surfaces, stripping and disposing of forms, backfilling, replacing landscaping, and general clean-up. The position may also involve overseeing crew members, digging and filling holes, patching and cutting holes in streets, conducting repairs on storm drain inlets, and performing minor maintenance on concrete around City buildings and facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years of experience in concrete construction, including the use of tools/equipment used in concrete construction
  • Valid driver’s license is required
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies
  • Knowledge of procedures of compaction
  • Knowledge of traffic control and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of customer service, and problem resolution techniques
  • Knowledge of occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices
  • Knowledge of safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to set grade stakes
  • Ability to check grade cuts and fills
  • Ability to calculate material quantities, grade, slope and drainage
  • Ability to operate power/hand tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties and responsibilities and assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands to meet deadlines
  • Ability to ensure appropriate levels of customer service to achieve expectations and meet objectives
