About The Position

The Concrete Barrier Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the concrete paver and curb/barrier machine. This role requires the ability to climb ladders, be semi-mechanically inclined to adjust sensors and hoses, assess concrete slump, take direction, and load/unload the paver from transport. The position involves operating heavy equipment, performing daily maintenance and safety checks, and ensuring the proper application of concrete to the desired specifications. Additionally, the operator will train new employees, work harmoniously with others, follow supervisor instructions, and work in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Able to meet all physical requirements.
  • Must have all required tools.
  • Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft).
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Be semi-mechanically inclined to adjust sensors and hoses.
  • Can look at concrete and have an idea of what the slump is.
  • Can take direction.
  • Can load and unload the paver from transport.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the paver and other heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintain and clean the machine every day.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Operate the Paver controls, including the screed auger and hopper, and navigate the direction of the paver.
  • Line paver appropriately to the work area, and ensure proper application of the concrete to the desired height, width, and depth.
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Paver.
  • Work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times.
  • Follow directions and instructions from supervisors.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from over 85 degrees to below 40 degrees.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
