About The Position

The Concert Percussion Instructor will work in collaboration with the Band Director to provide specialized instruction to percussion students in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. This part-time role involves supporting percussionists in developing strong fundamentals, ensemble skills, and artistic growth through focused coaching once or twice per week per class.
Requirements
- Strong background in percussion performance and pedagogy.
- Experience working with high school–aged students in an educational or instructional setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
Responsibilities
- Lead percussion sectionals and rehearsals within Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.
- Create, administer, and evaluate percussion proficiency and playing tests.
- Assign appropriate percussion parts for concert repertoire.
- Select and prepare chamber ensemble music for percussion students.
- Teach and reinforce proper playing technique across the full range of percussion instruments.
- Instruct students on proper care, storage, and maintenance of percussion equipment.
- Support individual and group growth goals as outlined by the Band Director.
- Collaborate with the Band Director on repertoire planning and percussion pedagogy.
- Attend performances, festivals, and special events when possible.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, fostering musicianship, teamwork, and responsibility.
