About The Position

As a valued member of the Lyceum Youth Orchestras Program at American Heritage School, the Director of the Concert Orchestra at the American Fork campus will actively recruit participants, direct the ensemble from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. on select Wednesdays during the school year, program appropriate-level repertoire for participants, and coordinate with other directors. Concert Orchestra is a full symphonic student orchestra ranging in age from 12–18, consisting of strings, winds, brass, and percussion. This position is considered a faith-forming role within American Heritage School. In addition to musical instruction, directors are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in music
  • Suggested minimum of four years of experience conducting full symphony orchestras
  • Strong conducting and rehearsal skills
  • Broad understanding of orchestral ensemble repertoire
  • High energy
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Professional in appearance and demeanor
  • Willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement
  • Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose
  • Alignment with and support of the school's religious mission and values

Responsibilities

  • Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission
