About The Position

Awetomaton is seeking a Computer Vision Engineer to support existing customers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, Ohio. The engineer will work with a small team to develop and optimize computer vision and image-processing algorithms that extract actionable insights from remote sensing imagery. The role applies computer vision, image processing, and GPU acceleration expertise using Python, C++, and NVIDIA CUDA to develop high-performance R&D capabilities. An active Top Secret security clearance is required. The position will largely be performed from WPAFB, with an anticipated December start.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of experience developing computer vision or image-processing algorithms.
  • Experience working with remote sensing imagery, including electro-optical (EO), infrared (IR), or other satellite-based sensor data.
  • Experience implementing algorithms for object detection, segmentation, tracking, image registration, or feature extraction.
  • At least one year of experience developing GPU-accelerated algorithms using NVIDIA CUDA, including implementing or optimizing GPU computations.
  • Proficiency developing scientific and image-processing software in Python using libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or OpenCV.
  • Mastery of software configuration management using Git.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing and optimizing CUDA C/C++ kernels, including GPU memory management and performance profiling.
  • Familiarity with GPU-accelerated computing libraries such as CuPy, Numba, or PyTorch.
  • Experience with OPIR imagery processing, exploitation, or analysis.
  • Expertise in classical computer vision, signal processing, or machine-learning techniques applied to remote sensing.
  • Experience developing modular, reusable software using strong object-oriented software development practices.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Podman, and GitFlow or GitOps workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize computer vision and image-processing algorithms for remote sensing imagery.
  • Apply GPU acceleration, including NVIDIA CUDA, to computationally intensive algorithms.
  • Translate research algorithms into efficient, reliable, and maintainable software.
  • Support existing customers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
  • Communicate effectively with peers and decision makers, and demonstrate initiative when guidance is limited or requirements are ambiguous.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off totaling 36 days per year.
