About The Position

The Village of Tinley Park is seeking a qualified Computer Technician for the Information Technology Department. This position is responsible for providing front-line technical support for end users and maintaining the reliability and usability of the Village’s desktop, laptop, and mobile computing environment. The Computer Technician will provide responsive end-user support and technical consultation to Village departments and employees.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field and one (1) year of relevant technical support experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of relevant technical support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of operating systems: Windows desktop operating systems, including deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of common productivity software suites, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Networking Fundamentals: Troubleshooting and management of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and wireless connectivity protocols.
  • Knowledge of Hardware and Peripherals: Installation, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, and related IT assets.
  • Knowledge of Mobile Devices: Configuration and management of smartphones and tablets, including integration with organizational systems and mobile device support.
  • Knowledge of Cybersecurity Principles: Fundamental awareness of data privacy standards, malware protection, and organizational security policies.
  • Ability to systematically diagnose, isolate, and resolve technical issues by applying logical troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, professional language for non-technical users, maintaining a helpful and collaborative demeanor across all communication channels.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of communication with Village leadership, supervisors, and staff, working proactively to understand their needs and to align technology-related decisions with the organization’s goals.
  • Ability to evaluate current systems and implement enhancements to effectively meet shifting technical and user requirements.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders to drive ongoing improvements to technology services and support processes.
  • Exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity when evaluating information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
  • Present information effectively and respond to inquiries from non-technical users in a clear, concise manner.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, review, create, and resolve technical support service desk tickets.
  • Install, configure, and maintain workstations and peripherals to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain operating systems and a diverse application portfolio to maximize system reliability, performance, and security.
  • Coordinate the deployment of mobile devices and the migration of end-user data to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Investigate and resolve workstation network connectivity disruptions to ensure consistent access to organizational resources.
  • Provide technical support for printing, including troubleshooting network connectivity and managing print queues.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of hardware and software assets, including inventory tracking, secure decommissioning, and the execution of data transfers to ensure continuity during refreshes.
  • Adhere to established cybersecurity policies and data privacy standards when handling departmental systems and sensitive information.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational best practices, and knowledge base resources.
  • Provide after-hours support for emergencies, scheduled on-call rotation, and occasional weekend maintenance.
