Computer Systems Analyst, eCommerce

Zones LLC.San Francisco, CA
$106,000 - $110,000Remote

About The Position

Zones.com seeks a Computer Systems Analyst with a specialty in eCommerce to analyze business and technical requirements and design, build, and maintain the enterprise-grade Java systems supporting the company's web platforms, payment-processing systems, and internal APIs. The role also includes designing and building AI-based analysis tools that process transactional and operational data. This position requires the theoretical and applied knowledge gained through a Master's degree program in Computer Science — including advanced coursework in algorithms, distributed systems, software architecture, database systems, and statistical/machine-learning foundations — to perform duties that go beyond routine systems administration or maintenance work.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science.
  • 2 years of experience in systems analysis and software development, which may be gained through prior employment, research assistantship, or graduate-level project work in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Demonstrated experience with: Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, RESTful and SOAP API design, relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server/PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and version control (Git).
  • Experience with web-based payment processing, including integration with payment gateways and applicable security/compliance standards (e.g., PCI DSS).
  • Experience applying machine-learning or statistical analysis libraries/frameworks (e.g., Python-based ML libraries, Java-based ML tooling, or LLM/API-based analysis tools) to build data-analysis applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Coursework or applied project experience in distributed systems, machine learning, or data mining.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business and technical requirements for the company's eCommerce systems, and design, develop, and maintain server-side Java applications and services using Java SE/EE, Spring, and Spring Boot frameworks to meet those requirements (approx. 30% of time).
  • Evaluate and enhance Java-based web applications, including front-end integration, servlets, and MVC frameworks, to ensure the performance and scalability of customer-facing eCommerce systems (approx. 20% of time).
  • Conduct systems analysis of the company's Java infrastructure: assess and recommend system architecture, evaluate distributed-computing trade-offs, tune application performance, and coordinate integration with enterprise infrastructure (approx. 15% of time).
  • Analyze, develop, and secure web payment-processing functionality, including integration with payment gateways/processors, tokenization, and adherence to PCI DSS and related data-security standards (approx. 15% of time).
  • Analyze integration requirements and design, build, and document RESTful and/or SOAP APIs for internal and partner-facing consumption, including authentication, versioning, and API-gateway configuration (approx. 10% of time).
  • Design and build AI-based analysis tools — applying statistical modeling and machine-learning techniques (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive analytics, natural-language processing of transaction/log data) — to extract actionable insight from operational and payments data (approx. 10% of time).
  • Participate in systems documentation, code reviews, unit/integration testing, CI/CD pipeline maintenance, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Troubleshoot program and system malfunctions to restore normal functioning.
  • Test, maintain, and monitor computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
  • Use object-oriented programming languages, as well as client and server applications development processes and multimedia and Internet technology.
  • Analyze information processing or computation needs and plan and design computer systems, using techniques such as structured analysis, data modeling, and information engineering.
  • Consult with management to ensure agreement on system principles.
  • Specify inputs accessed by the system and plan the distribution and use of the results.
  • Expand or modify system to serve new purposes or improve work flow.
  • Determine computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter systems.
  • Develop, document, and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
  • Define the goals of the system and devise flow charts and diagrams describing logical operational steps of programs.
  • Confer with clients regarding the nature of the information processing or computation needs a computer program is to address.
  • Supervise computer programmers or other systems analysts or serve as project leaders for particular systems projects.
  • Write code to perform desired actions.
