The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting, and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water per day to 8.3 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day. The Bureau of Police & Security seeks to hire a Computer Specialist for the Security Engineering Unit, located at the DEP Office in Valhalla, NY. The selected candidate will perform security system administration and database administration tasks, working with the Security System Administrator and/or contractors, both in office and in the field. Responsibilities include security system integration, computer setup, troubleshooting, and SQL reporting. They will interact with the internal IT organization on issues relating to security systems, including networking and cybersecurity. They will provide technical support on computers and security systems to end users at various locations within the boroughs of New York City and its upstate watershed areas. They will also provide backup coverage for the Security System Administrator, develop documentation, and spreadsheets as needed to support Security Engineering Unit. Expertise in MS SQL Server administration and Transact-SQL is a must. Familiarity with electronic access control/intrusion detection systems, CCTV, or electronics in general is a plus.
