The Information Technology Bureau (ITB) is to provide all members of the New York City Police Department with the most technological advancement available in order to enhance operational performance and promote personal safety. The use of technology in law enforcement contributes to officer effectiveness and efficiency, along with benefiting all of the citizens of New York. A computer technician installs, maintains, and repairs computer systems and networks. They diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, ensuring optimal performance and security. This includes setting up new equipment, troubleshooting problems, and providing technical support to users either in person, by phone, or remotely. Computer service technicians will also be creating and maintaining records of hardware and software configurations, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions.
