About The Position

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) aims to enhance the quality of life in New York City through community partnership, law enforcement, peace preservation, public protection, fear reduction, and order maintenance. The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) is responsible for critical IT projects and technological advancements within the NYPD, including managing the department's IT infrastructure and implementing innovations like officer cell phone applications and digitized forms to boost efficiency. The selected candidate will serve as a Part-Time Computer Aide, contributing to the efficient operation of the department's computer systems.

Requirements

  • Passed and reachable on the 'Computer Aide' exam #2052, or be permanent in the 'Computer Aide' title.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Six months of full-time mainframe, mini-computer or LAN/WAN computer operations experience or service desk/desktop support experience acquired in the past one year and three months.
  • OR Graduation from an approved technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in mainframe/mini-computer operations and/or technical support acquired in the past five years and three months.
  • OR Currently valid A+ or Network+ certification.
  • OR An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in computer technology.
  • OR Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • Experience primarily involving computer data entry and/or using word processing, spreadsheet and/or database applications as an end user is not acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure computer equipment is functioning properly.
  • Maintain logs of computer use and generate reports on production and machine utilization.
  • Perform related functions necessary for the continued and efficient operation of a computer.
  • Provide service desk and/or desktop support.
  • Prepare spreadsheets and reports.
  • Assist with computer work requiring specific tasks.
