About The Position

The Los Angeles City College (LACC) is hiring a Limited 1 Year Computer Science Instructor for the Spring 2027 semester. LACC, founded in 1929, is the oldest college in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and is known for its diverse student body and commitment to innovation. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science or computer engineering; OR Bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND Master’s in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting, or engineering; OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR Bachelor’s degree in mathematics AND Master’s degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s in information science, computer information systems, or information systems; OR the equivalent.
  • A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • COVID 19 VACCINATION: Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Master or Doctorate degree in Computer Science.
  • Experience teaching students in a relevant discipline at a Community College or University level.
  • Experience using learning management systems and remote teaching tools such as Canvas and Zoom.
  • Professional work or teaching experience relating to emerging technologies such as Data Science & Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing.
  • Ability to work effectively in promoting our programs to the students, community, local high schools, and industry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and work collegially and collaboratively within the department and the college.
  • Experience working with students of varying academic preparation and learning styles.
  • Strong understanding and experience implementing culturally sustaining pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Latinx and historically underrepresented and underserved populations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a broad range of Computer Science and Computer Information Systems courses, potentially including: Data Structures, Computer Architecture & Organization, Programming Languages, Data Science & Analytics, Databases, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing.
  • Assignments can include dual-enrollment courses at high schools or middle schools, off-site locations, evening/weekend classes, and face-to-face, online, or hybrid instruction.
  • Assess student performance and maintain records.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Support certificate completion and student success.
  • Develop and assess Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  • Participate in Program Review and accreditation activities.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Develop/update curriculum, including online and hybrid courses.
  • Support program growth, enrollment, retention, and student success.
  • Develop new curriculum aligned with industry needs.
  • Participate in grant-writing activities, including Strong Workforce and Perkins grants.
  • Perform departmental duties assigned by the department chair.
