About The Position

The Co-Chair partners with the Department Chair in providing academic and administrative leadership for the Computer Science Department. The Co-Chair assists in the orderly administration of the department and shares responsibility for advancing the department's mission while ensuring continuity of operations across the academic year. Working closely with the Chair, the Co-Chair provides leadership in faculty support, departmental initiatives, curriculum oversight, and strategic planning. The position serves as a collaborative partner to the Chair and may act on behalf of the Chair when delegated or during periods of absence. The Co-Chair is also a member of the RSECS Leadership Team and contributes to school-wide initiatives that support the success of students, faculty, and staff across the Ritchie School.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chair in the effective administration of the department.
  • Support implementation of departmental priorities and strategic initiatives.
  • Help ensure continuity of departmental operations throughout the academic year.
  • Participate in department meetings and governance activities.
  • Assist with faculty mentoring and engagement.
  • Support onboarding of new faculty.
  • Assist with teaching assignments and workload planning as requested.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with curriculum planning and continuous improvement.
  • Support assessment activities and accreditation-related efforts.
  • Participate in academic program reviews and new program initiatives.
  • Promote student success and academic excellence.
  • Assist in addressing student concerns as appropriate.
  • Support recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Assist with management of departmental resources.
  • Support planning for departmental events, meetings, and initiatives.
  • Help coordinate communications among faculty, staff, and leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the RSECS Leadership Team.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and school-wide planning.
  • Consider and advocate for the needs of all RSECS students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate across departments on strategic initiatives.
  • When requested by the Dean or Department Chair, the Co-Chair may serve as Acting Chair during temporary absences and assume delegated decision-making authority necessary to maintain departmental operations.
