About The Position

City of Springfield is seeking applicants for Computer Network Specialist. This position is within the Office of Public Utilities, Division of Information Systems. The work is performed at CWLP ISD in Springfield, Illinois. The role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, wired and wireless infrastructures, PCs, and connected devices, as well as supporting software applications. The specialist will also manage Active Directory and user accounts, troubleshoot connectivity issues, document support materials, and coordinate with outside maintenance personnel when necessary.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college with coursework in computer science, along with two years of experience in advanced server or networking technologies, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A strong understanding of Active Directory policies, maintenance, and administration is required, as well as experience with documentation.
  • Must hold a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification in Microsoft Windows and/or a Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification, or be able to obtain the necessary certification(s) within the probationary period from the date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with network security, Cisco Catalyst switches, and Ruckus Wireless systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge in desktop, application, and server virtualization is considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure and maintain servers, wired and wireless infrastructures, PC’s and connected devices.
  • Install, configure and maintain software applications to support users and network.
  • Configure and maintain active directory and user management applications.
  • Troubleshoot network, server and system connectivity issues.
  • Work as a member of a team and document support and reference materials.
  • Use good judgement in dispatching outside maintenance personnel for computer and network hardware.
