About The Position

This role involves evaluating new technologies and their potential security vulnerabilities, assisting in the planning of policies and guidelines for state-of-the-art equipment implementation within State Department resources. The position is responsible for testing software applications and network hardware for vulnerabilities, specifically within a laboratory-focused local area network environment. Key duties include designing and deploying network and video infrastructure cabling, analyzing computer and network architectures to optimize performance, security, and laboratory testing functionality. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills to document testing procedures, results, and recommendations for senior managers. Additionally, the engineer must be able to troubleshoot hardware and software issues efficiently under tight constraints, and research, test, review, and report on emergent technologies.

Requirements

  • Current Interim Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government final TOP SECRET Personnel Security Clearance and qualify for SCI access.
  • Eligible for and able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance/access approvals.
  • Five years of experience and a master’s degree in computer science or engineering, OR at least ten years of equivalent work experience and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, OR equivalent work experience.
  • Experience configuring, designing, and maintaining Window servers.
  • Experience designing, configuring, and testing personal computer and network software components in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience programming software and command line interfaces.
  • Experience setting up patch management software and backup management solutions.
  • Fluent in VMWare, C, C++, Objective C, Java, communication protocol implementation, Wi-Fi, RFID, Bluetooth, TCP-IP, VoIP, and Linux/Windows/OSX scripting.
  • Experience with commercial and government best practices in securing computers, networks, and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of how to use all major MS Windows applications.
  • Detailed understanding and experience in Android/iOS/Blackberry operating systems.
  • Understanding of system architecture, application design, and device management and deployment.
  • Knowledge of active directory application mode, lightweight directory access protocol, and online certificate status protocol.
  • Knowledge of bandwidth utilization.
  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills.
