About The Position

The Education Justice Project (EJP) is seeking a Computer Lab Coordinator to manage its computer lab at Danville Correctional Center. This lab is a vital resource for EJP programs, including for-credit courses, writing and math partners, STEM workshops, and Language Partners. Students use the lab for assignments, lesson preparation, and to gain computer proficiency. The coordinator will foster a purposeful 'third space' that supports community building and meets the lab's functional needs, working with a computer lab team and an incarcerated student advisory committee.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Proven managerial or administrative experience
Good familiarity with computer labs and multiple software interfaces
Demonstrated commitment to social justice values

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with issues related to incarceration, criminal justice, reentry, and related matters

Responsibilities

Maintain the hardware in the computer lab, addressing technical issues with servers, workstations, laptops, and auxiliary devices.
Maintain the software library, ensuring functionality and providing documentation for students.
Ensure active involvement of EJP students and stakeholders in lab management.
Expand hardware and software resources when funding is available, assessing and selecting new resources and upgrades.
Develop and enforce computer lab use policies consistent with DCC and IDOC regulations.
Perform general maintenance and upkeep of user accounts, promptly providing new accounts and archiving inactive ones.
Provide training on computer lab policies and general use to incoming and current instructors and students.
Assist EJP instructors with software training, clearance, and installation of new software.
Oversee 'Pit Crew' operations, providing feedback and resources for their growth.
Regularly evaluate performance in communication, monitoring, nurturing, and decision-making.
Communicate information, concerns, and announcements to EJP students, members, academic staff, onsite coordinators, and the public.
Monitor the program, assess performance, and make necessary fixes and changes.
Nurture, guide, mentor, and support EJP members, identifying those in need and developing a nurturing culture.
Exercise leadership and initiative in decision-making, including making bold programming or operational decisions and developing leadership skills.
