A brighter future is possible with you. We are currently seeking a Computer Engineering Co-op (Spring–Summer 2027). This position is a full-time co-op opportunity located in Beavercreek/Dayton, OH. Application deadline: October 23rd, 2026. "From Silicon to Systems" — Battelle is an elite, multi-disciplinary team bringing together the brightest minds from physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics to develop unique embedded security solutions for government and industrial customers. We work in small, agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology, supported by high-powered labs equipped with specialized software and hardware so our engineers have everything they need to invent new cyber solutions. As a Computer Engineering Co-op, you will hone your skills by analyzing hard problems that arise from evaluating and testing physical and embedded systems. Our projects are non-standard, highly customized, and will push you to new levels as a computer engineer.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field of study
• Junior standing or higher
• Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, C, C++, Assembly, or microcode (uCode)
• Experience with Git
• Experience working with hardware development boards for FPGAs and MCUs
• Local travel expected
• Must be a sole U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

• Experience in electronics or semiconductor test and measurement techniques, including electrical and/or optical characterization (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, waveform generators, and electrical lab test equipment)
• Understanding of and experience with test scripting languages and communication protocols including Python, NI LabVIEW, MATLAB, and USB or serial instrumentation automation
• Experience with lab automation and interfacing with APIs
• Experience adding functionality and resolving issues within existing codebases
• Experience with AI-assisted code development
• Experience with programmable embedded systems, including FPGAs and MCUs
• Passion and drive to continuously improve your skill set

Responsibilities

• Develop code to interface with hardware systems including FPGAs, microcontrollers (MCUs), and common lab equipment such as lock-in amplifiers, oscilloscopes, DAQ hardware, power supplies, source measure units, and function generators
• Work with a senior computer engineer and additional team members to understand project requirements and scope; design, develop, and modify software and firmware for custom, memory-constrained hardware and related systems
• Contribute to a Python and PyQt framework for the analysis of integrated circuits built around open-source libraries, leveraging AI models and version control to produce robust, well-documented, and integrated code
• Create and modify software to interface with hardware APIs
