About The Position

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a unique, mission-driven organization that develops in-house nuclear reactor instrumentation and control systems for the U.S. Navy's aircraft carriers, submarines, and future platforms. Within NNL, the System Verification and Validation Unit is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer or Computer Engineer with a strong interest in testing and troubleshooting hardware and software. You will be placed at the cutting edge of naval nuclear control suites to ensure operational excellence by qualifying reactor plant embedded systems. This role is well suited for an engineer who thrives in a collaborative setting and wants hands-on experience operating prototypic shipboard equipment in a laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
  • All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.
  • All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior testing and troubleshooting experience in microprocessor-based embedded control systems
  • System or operational experience on naval or commercial nuclear reactor plants
  • Strong Academic performance - Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 GPA Scale
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner

Responsibilities

  • Developing test procedures and automated methods for hardware and software qualification
  • Performing hands-on and automated testing to verify the technical adequacy of designs
  • Troubleshooting issues discovered during test and fleet operation
  • Becoming a subject matter expert in the design, operation, and maintenance of I&C systems
