About The Position

This is highly skilled work in the installation, configuration, operation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security management of data communications, and computer hardware and software within the school system. This position provides support to users in the use of software and hardware. The work is performed under the supervision of the Technology Department.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree in Information Technology or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience OR three (3) years of technically progressive current work experience in local and wide area networks, user and help desk support.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience as a Computer Analyst I or similar experience.
  • Experience with Windows LAN and Cisco WAN networking systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of the methods, hardware, software, and practices of data processing.
  • Experience in configuring Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft Windows Workstation 7 and newer.
  • Ability to read, write, and work from technical specifications.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver oral and written communications to large and small groups as well as individuals.
  • Skills in the creation, maintenance, and use of IT materials, including cabling and wiring, and diagnostics of hardware and software.
  • Experience in troubleshooting relating to the operation of information networks, and networked computer hardware and software systems. (Microsoft and Cisco preferred).
  • Ability to prepare written technical reports and maintain adequate records of all work performed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and/or commercial driver’s license and be eligible for approval to drive a CCPS vehicle, when needed.
  • Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations established by Charles County Public Schools.
  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

Responsibilities

  • Performs highly skilled work in the installation, configuration, operation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security management of data communications.
  • Routinely set-up, install, and repair computer hardware and software within the school system, at both assigned schools and at others according to system needs; this includes transporting, unpacking, and configuring various IT devices, including desktops, laptops, printers, routers, and switches.
  • Provides guidance and training to Computer Analyst I and interns.
  • Provides support to users in the use of software and hardware.
  • Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by supervisor.
  • Implements technology standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Serves as the technical point of contact.
  • Collaborates with the school-based Instructional Leadership Team.
  • Monitors remote and local networks to assure optimum response time and throughput.
  • Prepares written reports
  • Attends training and work-related seminars.
  • Maintains accurate inventory records and records of all work performed.
  • Regular on-time attendance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to tolerate low to moderate noise levels in the work environment
  • Work may or may not be performed in a normal office setting, such as the LAN/WAN room and wiring closets
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of IT Strategy.
