About The Position

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Computer Aide II within the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems Team, within the QA & Support Services Division, Drinking Water Operations Directorate, for a position at the Grahamsville Facility. The Bureau of Water Supply, Drinking Water Operations (DWO) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, treatment and quality of three water supply systems and all associated infrastructure that conveys water to New York City. These systems include the Croton, Catskill, and Delaware Systems. The Directorate also operates and maintains seven Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRF’s), including five collection systems, that protect the headwaters of these systems. The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems Team, within the QA & Support Services Division, supports the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of the City’s drinking water supply by maintaining, securing, and improving the SCADA systems that monitor and control BWS infrastructure. Their work ensures real time visibility, automated control, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity across reservoirs, aqueducts, treatment facilities, and distribution assets.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and (a) six months of full-time mainframe, mini-computer or LAN/WAN computer operations experience or service desk/desk top support experience acquired in the past one year and three months; or (b) graduation from an approved technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in mainframe/mini-computer operations and/or technical support acquired in the past five years and three months; or (c) currently valid A+ or Network+ certification; or
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in computer technology; or
  • Education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college, including or supplemented by six credits in computer technology for three months of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support for SCADA systems, including troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Assisting with the design, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA systems
  • Configuring and testing SCADA software and hardware to ensure proper functioning
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues with SCADA systems
  • Working with third party vendors/contractors to ensure proper installation, reliability, accuracy, and maintenance of all computer hardware and supporting control systems associated with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system
  • Working with field technicians and I.T. (Information Technology) divisions to support operation and upgrades of the telemetry equipment and communications infrastructure
  • Coordinating with operating and maintenance personnel to provide proper calibration, repair and maintenance of sensors, instruments, and telemetry equipment
  • Troubleshooting and resolving computer system issues (hardware and software).
  • Maintaining documentation of SCADA systems and processes
  • Traveling and supporting SCADA systems at other facilities as required
