About The Position

The CT technologist is responsible for performing CT scans and procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The CT technologist must be able to accurately interpret physician scanning instructions, start and administer IV contrast media, and prepare and perform scans according to established protocols. The technologist must be knowledgeable about radiation exposure to the patient and make technical changes according to body habitus, age, and the ALARA principle. The technologist provides direct patient care to patients of all ages. The technologist is expected to provide excellent customer service, treating every patient with respect and courtesy, and explaining the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work collaboratively with others, providing a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Certified Computed Tomography (CT) (ARRT)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • 1 - 2 years CT experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized procedures according to department protocols.
  • Identify the patient according to hospital policy.
  • Ensure the correct procedure is performed on the patient based on the medical record or physician orders.
  • Set up the procedure room and isotope for the exam.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient and/or family member.
  • Perform the exam/procedure according to established protocols.
  • Ensure the exam is properly labeled.
  • Quality assure the exam before it is released for interpretation.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA procedures on the equipment.
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure Radiation Safety and Protection for staff and patients.
  • Only radiate the area of interest when performing the exam on the patient.
  • Shield the patient's gonads region, especially children and adults of childbearing age.
  • Limit repeat exposures to patients by ensuring the equipment is set up correctly.
  • Wear radiation monitoring badges at all times.
  • Wear protective equipment when in the radiation field (fluoroscopic exams and/or holding patients).
  • Stand behind the protective barrier when not required to be in the radiation field.
  • Limit exposure by limiting exposure time to radiation and increasing distance from the radiation source.
  • Ensure the safety of others during the exam by having them behind the lead barrier or wearing radiation protective equipment during an exposure.
  • Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensure documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
  • Use correct terminology and conform to required style and format.
  • Demonstrate technical skill in using equipment appropriate for the role.
  • Understand equipment operation and maintain equipment in working order.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and use technology to increase productivity.
  • Adapt to new technology.
  • Collect data in a systematic and ongoing process.
  • Identify issues and develop diagnoses based on assessment data.
  • Prioritize data collection based on the patient's condition and needs.
  • Identify expected outcomes and plan based on diagnoses or issues.
  • Perform interventional procedures such as biopsies, abscess drainage, and centesis reduction.
  • Properly identify the side to be entered.
  • Perform a Time-out with all personnel involved with the procedure before it is started.
  • Perform the exam according to the direction of the radiologist.
  • Conduct the procedure as a sterile procedure.
  • Scan documents into the Radiology PACS.
  • Quality assure the images before sending the study to the radiologist who performs the exam.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as required and complete all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attend ongoing educational programs).
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, attend training and demonstrate usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
