About The Position

The Computational Biology & Genomics Scientist serves as a strategic technical advisor to the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), helping conceptualize, create, and execute government-funded research and development programs intended to accelerate better health outcomes. The role provides technical expertise and project development for emerging healthcare opportunities, assesses new technologies for senior ARPA-H decision makers, and presents findings and recommendations concerning the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs. It also supports current program management and commercialization of successfully developed technologies. The scientist helps clients develop stakeholder management strategies, establish business processes, and conduct research and analysis to identify viable solutions. The role manages incoming requirements, facilitates engagements within and across Agency offices, and responds to emerging client requests. It focuses in particular on multi-factor drivers of autism trajectories and related systems-biology research, and involves working with scientists, engineers, clients, government officials, and executives across sectors.

Requirements

  • Experience in human genetics or 'omics research, including data generation and analysis in areas such as genomics, sequencing, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or microbiome.
  • Experience using computational methods for high-dimensional biological data, such as bioinformatics, statistical genetics, data science, computational modeling, or machine learning.
  • Experience working with large human cohort or long-term datasets that combine several data types.
  • Ability to manage budgets, technical milestones, and multidisciplinary research efforts across multi-site or multi-performer programs.
  • Master’s degree in Human Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or Systems Biology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with autism or other neurodevelopmental research.
  • Experience with large-scale genomic and population health datasets such as SPARK, Simons Simplex Collection, MSSNG, ABCD, or All of Us.
  • Experience with neuroimaging, EEG, and biomarker analysis.
  • Experience operating within a government environment.
  • Experience supporting senior federal leaders.
  • Knowledge of genomic data governance, privacy, and participant engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Doctorate degree in Human Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Systems Biology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise on multi-factor drivers of autism trajectories, including genetic, epigenetic, metabolomic, immune, microbiome, environmental, family, and developmental factors.
  • Support strategy development and program execution for multi-factor interaction modeling and related initiatives.
  • Evaluate the conceptual and technical soundness of research programs in autism trajectory characterization and systems biology, including human biological characterization methods such as neuroimaging and electrophysiology.
  • Help define program goals, technical milestones, budgets, and performer expectations for scientific initiatives.
  • Conduct technical reviews of performer progress to ensure alignment with ARPA-H objectives.
  • Interact with clients, government officials, and executives across sectors.
  • Provide technical assessments of emerging technologies and present findings and recommendations to clients and colleagues.
