About The Position

The Compounding Lead oversees the daily operations of the compounding department, ensuring that production schedules are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. This role involves coordinating and leading a team of compounders, ensuring all processes align with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety standards, and company policies. The Compounding Lead also plays a hands-on role in batch preparation, documentation, and troubleshooting, serving as a key liaison between the compounding team and other departments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • 4-6 years in compounding or manufacturing, with at least 1 year in a leadership role (Preferred)
  • 4-6 years proficient in batch documentation and GMP compliance (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, MSDS, and inventory management systems. (High proficiency)
  • Experience with customer trials and validation batches is a plus. (High proficiency)
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team while ensuring adherence to schedules and standards. (High proficiency)
  • Verbal and written communication skills for documentation and team coordination. (High proficiency)
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety standards and regulatory compliance. (High proficiency)
  • Competence in compounding, equipment operation, and sanitation procedures. (Medium proficiency)
  • Ability to address and resolve compounding or documentation challenges efficiently. (Medium proficiency)
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities, maintaining accuracy in documentation, and upholding standards. (Medium proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Review Chemical Batch Sets and secure chemicals from the staging area or weigh materials as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and complete batch documentation, making corrections as necessary.
  • Oversee daily logbook maintenance and ensure all required departmental documents are verified and complete.
  • Coordinate workloads, assign batching tasks to team members, monitor performance, and maintain the compounding schedule.
  • Report and document any incidents or deviations.
  • Compound batches within the department and pump them to designated holding tanks or totes.
  • Remove waste materials, maintain a tidy workspace, and clean and sanitize equipment.
  • Perform sampling and label samples for laboratory testing.
  • Collaborate with customers on trial/validation batches and implement lab-recommended adjustments.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of inventory practices and participate in inventory control when required.
  • Foster a culture of positive work ethics, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor new team members, ensuring they understand compounding procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain tow motor certification and train team members as needed.
  • Train all team members to maintain yearly Training Matrix and on new and Revise SOPs.
  • Understand and enforce compliance with GMP, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safety Standards, Environmental Policies, WHMIS, and MSDS.
  • Ensure the team adheres to plant policies and procedures.
  • Act as the point of contact between the compounding department and other departments, such as Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Production, to resolve operational issues and ensure seamless communication.
  • Participate in or lead initiatives to improve compounding efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall production quality.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability for production needs.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or required maintenance promptly to avoid production delays.
  • Ensure team members are trained on the proper use and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Ensure the department complies with all regulatory requirements and it is always audit-ready.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and records.
  • Provide feedback to team members on performance and assist in goal setting to foster professional development.
  • Act as a key responder for operational emergencies within the compounding department, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Maintain and submit detailed production reports including batch yields, deviations, and report Shift Performance, Batch Manufacturing Cycle time and other required metrics.
