About The Position

The Composites Manager directs the production and staff of the composites department. This role involves assisting in the quoting and development of new and old projects, and working closely with other departments to ensure all areas are developed to a successful launch and outcome.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in plastics model making.
Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
High School or GED equivalent.
Basic hand tools for the position and ability to upgrade such tools as required.
Proficiency in budgeting time and allocating resources.
Team player.

Good verbal and written communication skills.
Reliable.
Excellent work ethics.

Flexibility with schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines.
Understanding of the materials and processes utilized in composite products as well as associated composites testing techniques to validate product integrity.

Nice To Haves

Knowledgeable of the following composite processes: hand lay-up, Pre-preg, filament winding, VARTM/RTM, or fiber placement of polymer matrix composites.
Knowledge of composites processing support equipment such as ovens, presses, autoclaves, pattern cutters, laser projection systems, filament winding machines, fiber placement machines, VARTM/RTM or other similar equipment.
Design experience in composite tooling is required.
A certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trades school is preferred.
Advanced college coursework a plus.
CAD – UG, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Mechanical Desktop.
Microsoft Project.
Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, Tasks, Teams.

Responsibilities

Production and management of manufactured composite components.
Preparation of composite materials and process selection studies.
Coordination of composite design activities with engineering.
Development of cost models and manufacturing implementation plans with P&M operations and/or supply chain.
Assisting in the development of technical solutions to complex design problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.
Lead transition planning of composites shop from R&D to volume manufacture, including development of investment and cost models, set-up of low-volume production lines, labor distribution, and quality process standards.
Implementation of a composites production control system for managing low volume, diverse product manufacturing environments.
Training and development of composite production staff in efficient processes with a focus on quality.
Technical writing skills in support of proposal activity, reports, and specifications using MS Word and Excel.
Platform skills using PowerPoint for presentations.
Organizing, executing, and supporting other disciplines and subject matter experts in completion of assigned tasks and failure investigations.
