About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Materials & Processes (BCA M&P) is seeking a Senior Composites Engineer for the 787 Wing & Empennage Engineering Support team in North Charleston, SC. This position involves defining engineering requirements, producing specifications, and approving tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in product design, manufacture, and maintenance, ensuring contractual and regulatory compliance. The role also includes developing, qualifying, and certifying new tools, materials, parts, processes, and systems to meet program requirements, and managing test programs, audits, and supplier qualifications. The engineer will analyze performance and failures, implement corrective and preventive actions, and optimize product/process design. Additionally, the position evaluates emerging technologies like automation, robotics, and additive manufacturing for integration to support business needs and standardization efforts. The role requires using project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements while incorporating Environmental Health & Safety, LEAN, and Quality principles, and promoting standardization across business operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years’ experience in Engineering and Manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years’ experience driving data-informed manufacturing process improvements and complex technical manufacturing challenges.
  • 3+ years’ experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • (Senior Level 5) 10 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's degree from an ABET accredited university in Engineering or relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in composite fabrication, and detail part and assembly manufacturing and qualification.
  • Prior M&P drawing review signature authority and Authorized Qualification Representative.
  • Experience with driving manufacturing process improvements informed by data.
  • Experience with solving technically complex manufacturing problems.
  • Experience with industrial controls, robotics, and process automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements while incorporating Environmental Health & Safety, LEAN, and Quality principles across materials/process design, research and qualification, procedures, and labs/offices.
  • Promote and drive standardization across business operations in alignment with engineering and manufacturing objectives.
