About The Position

The Animal Health Bureau is currently recruiting a Compliance Technician to join the team. The Animal Health Bureau is responsible for the prevention, control, and eradication of animal diseases, safeguarding the health of the State's livestock and poultry and preventing the transmission of animal diseases to man. The prevention and control of domestic animal diseases are achieved through five major areas of activity: Import/Export, Disease Control, Livestock Crime Investigation, Alternative Livestock, and Field Operations. The Compliance Technician is responsible for examining movement and testing documents and report discrepancies and implementing procedures for non-compliance. Contact veterinarians to clarify the reported information and determine if requirements are met. Conduct ongoing movement and testing document compliance reviews, compile timely activity reports, and generate progress reports. Issues permits and licenses to allow animal movement, and other specialized licenses for animal disease related issues. The incumbent must correspond with veterinarians and animal owners to determine which licenses/permits are relevant based on varying situations.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar office environment providing customer service, organizational skills and computer operation is required.

  • Familiarity with Montana livestock regulations and animal health import requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a first point of contact for the department.
  • Answer inquiries from staff, public and veterinarians using knowledge of Federal and State regulation and department protocols.
  • Issues permits for import in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Maintains databases (CoreOne Animal Health) and other statistical charts necessary to analyze statistical trends, assess compliance, and extract data in a meaningful manner.
  • Assists in administration of disease program activities, through general inquiry correspondence, tracking testing requirements, and preparation of materials and documents.
  • Examines movement and testing documentation for supporting federal and state compliance and accuracy.
  • Conducts ongoing movement document compliance reviews, compile timely activity reports, and generate progress reports.
  • Manages license program activities.
