About The Position

The Compliance Specialist will focus on privacy issues while also supporting compliance efforts generally, with a growing focus on the Company’s new products and new third party administrator duties. Continental General has provided insurance, including life and long-term care policies, to individuals and groups for over 30 years, and currently supports over 200,000 policyholders. Both our insurance company, Continental General Insurance Company, and our third-party administrator, Continental General Services, are committed to the continuous development of our infrastructure, processes, and people. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of education and experience required.
  • 5 or more years of insurance privacy experience and legal research experience in a compliance role.
  • Strong understanding of insurance principles, products (life, LTC), and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to explain complex concepts to varied audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Company’s compliance efforts, with a focus on privacy and new product compliance.
  • Have an understanding of GLBA, HIPAA, FCRA, and similar laws, with capability to conduct research and determine applicable and pertinent laws, statutes, and regulations
  • Conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the facts and circumstances surrounding any potential breach of privacy.
  • Research HIPAA breach reporting requirements, state breach notification laws, and information security standards to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure effective maintenance and implementation of the Company’s and partners’ privacy notices and oversee the implementation of new or revised notices.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure accuracy and timely reporting of updated privacy notices
  • Update privacy forms as applicable.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure new products are designed to comply with regulatory standards.
  • Attend product design, development, and implementation meetings.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing updates to legal and compliance policies and procedures that are impacted by new products.
  • Research and analyze state specific regulations and legislation impacting the Company.
  • Assist with insurance producer compliance issues.
  • Proactively conduct research on emerging legal issues to provide legal and compliance support to business teams.
  • Manage execution of legal and compliance support for the onboarding of new third-party administrator clients to help ensure that legal and compliance obligations to clients and regulatory reporting are identified and implemented.
  • Generally support Company-wide compliance efforts.
