About The Position

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance in all aspects of LIHTC, HUD, Public Housing, HOME and other regulatory agency requirements. This includes delivering a consistent, accurate and high-quality work product that meets or exceeds regulatory agencies’ expectations, maintaining a strong knowledge of program requirements and protocols, building professional mutually beneficial relationships with state agencies, contract administrators, colleagues, internal customers and key stakeholders, and responding to contacts in a timely and proficient manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred
  • HCCP, HUD-COS Certification (or similar) required
  • Minimum of three years of experience working as a Compliance Specialist, Occupancy Specialist or Affordable Housing Property Manager—with hands-on compliance experience
  • Prior experience with preparing and submitting Section 8 vouchers via TRACS 202D, troubleshooting issues/errors via HUD Secure System and the MAT guide, and good working knowledge of EIV strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills—must work well independently
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment
  • Ability to establish relationships across the organization and at various hierarchical levels
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time; must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Models company mission and values
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with various affordable housing programs throughout assigned portfolio of properties—including: LIHTC, HUD Section 8 and Section 811, Public Housing/ACC, HOME, and RAD
  • Reviews all new move-in applications within existing portfolio and new development lease up
  • Executes internal audits on site at least four times per year to ensure ongoing compliance and to proactively prepare for state agency and investor reviews
  • Monitors property compliance activities via Yardi software; including but not limited to; checking move-ins and monthly recertifications, and following up with property management to address late activities
  • Completes and submits Annual LIHTC, HOME, and other compliance reports as required by designated deadlines, and performs regular uploads of tenant data from Yardi to the state agency software
  • Conducts how-to training on the certification/recertification processes, the application process and Yardi software utilization
  • Represents the company with professionalism during all interactions with state and local monitoring agencies, investors, contract administrators, etc.
  • Collaborates with team members to ensure that assigned tasks are completed by designated deadline—especially critical during lease up of new properties
  • Maintains an open mind, adapt to change and exhibit a positive attitude
  • Other duties as assigned
