About The Position

The Georgia Department of Revenue’s Local Government Services Division supports Georgia’s local communities by administering property tax laws, distributing sales and use tax revenue to local authorities, and enforcing the Unclaimed Property Act. The Compliance Specialist 1 reviews and monitors county digest compliance with state property tax laws and regulations, works with county officials, and helps uphold standards for sound tax administration. The role reports to the Compliance Specialist Supervisor. This is a mobile position assigned to the South Metro Facilities at 4125 Welcome All Rd, Atlanta, Georgia. Travel across the state is required, including regular on-site county visits, and may account for up to 80% of the time. A valid Georgia driver’s license is mandatory.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and two years of job-related experience, specifically property tax experience in a Georgia County Board of Assessors office or Tax Commissioner's Office.
Effective communication and active listening skills.
Ability to interpret property tax laws, policies, and regulations.
Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
Sound judgment and decision-making ability.
Accountability, integrity, and a results-driven focus on meeting deadlines.
Valid Georgia driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Appraiser Level I or II certification.
Accounting degree.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

Review and monitor county digests to ensure compliance with state property tax laws and regulations.
Conduct on-site audits to verify accuracy and adherence to established standards.
Provide counties with guidance and support on property tax matters.
Instruct classes and training sessions conducted by Local Government Services, as assigned.
Manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
