About The Position

The Illinois Lottery is hiring an Internal Security Investigator with a passion to ensure the Illinois Lottery’s integrity remains the highest possible for its players and employees. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task duties, while remaining calm under high pressure circumstances, and communicate clearly to a wide variety of people. The Illinois Lottery operates and administers the Lottery with integrity, security, transparency, honesty and fairness. Through the sales of its products, online and in-person at over 7,000 retailers throughout the state, the Department has contributed over $23 billion to support K-12 public schools. Additionally, hundreds of millions of dollars have also been contributed to capital projects and specialty causes like Illinois veterans services, the fight against breast cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s research, Special Olympics, police memorials, homeless services, STEAM education and assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition to the monetary support it provides the State, the Department champions the people of Illinois, strengthening communities through engagement with the public, players and retailers and providing safe, fun and responsible games to adults 18 and over. Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus three (3) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field, OR Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field, OR Requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling.
Requires the ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish at a colloquial skill level.
Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Requires ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb, bend, and stoop, lift heavy objects, and reach above shoulder level during surveillances and/or investigations.
Requires the ability to utilize state issued equipment, (i.e., cell phone, laptop, car, etc.).

Responsibilities

Travels throughout the state, to serve as an investigative team member conducting security audits of state-wide Lottery operations and retailer compliance audits, to verify adherence to policies and procedures, speaking Spanish as necessary
Assists the Chief of Investigations and other investigative team members to ensure the integrity of the lottery games and prevent the perpetration of fraud upon the Agency and the public, speaking Spanish as necessary.
Conducts confidential investigations concerning the routine cases involving instances of policy violations, conflicts of interests, or malfeasance of Lottery employees, speaking Spanish as necessary.
Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, in person, electronically or by mail from retailers, players, employees, management, legal, etc., regarding security issues or potential fraud, speaking Spanish as necessary.
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
