The Nevada Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Compliance Investigator 2 in Carson City. Incumbents promote safety practices covered by state and federal safety and health laws and regulations. Incumbents train others to identify safety and health hazards and violations, and recommend reasonable means of abatement; research specific technology and industry applications using technical references and consensus codes and standards; and prepare written reports and training materials. Incumbents conduct worksite inspections; ergonomic evaluations; environmental assessments; and take necessary steps to ensure employees are removed from danger. Incumbents influence supervisors to take preventative or corrective actions; and assign abatement periods in which serious regulatory violations must be corrected. Safety Specialists investigate industrial accidents resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. The incumbents coordinate occupational claim investigation with the Agency Loss Control Coordinator as to validity, cause, and prevention. In instances of blood borne exposures, performs investigation as to the source of the exposure; may include obtaining medical information of the inmate, if applicable, and coordinates findings with the Agency Loss Control Coordinator and agency Disease Specialist. Incumbents manage the lockout/tagout and HAZMAT safety regulations for the agency. Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority. Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept in an investigative unit at the journey level. Duties are distinguished from the Compliance Investigator I class by greater complexity and independence in performing job assignments at the full journey level.
