Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 129 independent legal aid offices nationwide. LSC’s mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans. The Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) oversees compliance with the LSC Act, applicable laws and regulations, and grant requirements. OCE reviews compliance matters, maintains related records and processes, and works with grantees and other LSC offices to support accountability and the responsible administration of LSC funds. The internships are based in Washington, DC, and will require working from an office in DC in accordance with LSC’s hybrid work model. The successful candidates must live in the DC metropolitan area for the duration of the internship. The primary objectives of this internship are for the intern to: Develop a practical understanding of compliance oversight within LSC-funded civil legal services; Strengthen legal and policy research, document review, and professional writing skills; Build experience organizing, reviewing, and analyzing compliance-related data and records; Strengthen project management, time management, professional judgment, and effective workplace behaviors; Gain hands-on experience using OCE’s compliance tools, systems, and processes. The internship is expected to run from September through December 2026. Interns will work part-time, up to 20 hours per week during the fall.
