The Compliance/Customs Lead serves as the primary technical subject matter expert for all import/export, transport, and trade compliance activities at the site level. This role is responsible for ensuring that all logistics and customs operations are executed in full compliance with applicable regulations, corporate standards, and international trade requirements. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in trade compliance or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of global customs fundamentals, including classification, valuation, country of origin, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Knowledge of export compliance fundamentals, including ECCNs (Export Control Classification Numbers) and AES (Automated Export System).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyse domestic and international shipping documents, contracts, and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Proven track record of delivering goals in line with targeted timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while proactively maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Customs Brokerage experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all logistics-related tasks in accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), guidelines, and internal directives.
  • Organize and coordinate national and international transport based on transport forms, including temperature-controlled shipments, hazardous goods, and products of animal origin.
  • Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert on all import/export requirements.
  • Identify, collect, and coordinate all necessary data elements and documentation required for compliant, prompt, and effective export and customs entry of international cargo.
  • Review transactional import and export documentation to ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Resolve shipments involving complex customs issues.
  • Liaise with affiliates, customers, logistics service providers, customs brokers, and carriers to ensure shipments are processed in accordance with all applicable customs requirements and guidelines.
  • Work with customers' customs brokers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to resolve customs-related exceptions, obtain required documentation and signatures, and release shipments from customs hold.
  • Ensure any monthly PPC (Process Under Customs Control) reports are submitted accurately and on time to Revenue.
  • Ensure the site maintains audit readiness at all times.
  • Develop and maintain a Customs/Trade Compliance guide to ensure all exports and imports flow successfully through customs.
  • Ensure site activities are aligned with and compliant to corporate processes and standards.
  • Identify and implement projects and process improvements to enhance compliance with brokers, clients, and across the network.
  • Maintain the site's Known Consignor status and C-TPAT status, and drive attainment of AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) status for the site.
  • Maintain workplace cleanliness and organization, including proper management and use of instruments, devices, materials, and tools.
  • Ensure the quality of all performed tasks and comply with applicable laws, standards, and regulations regarding environment, quality, safety, trade practices, and import/export restrictions (e.g., animal materials, sensitive products).
