About The Position

UTHealth Houston is seeking a Compliance Coordinator to manage daily compliance reports, investigations, concerns, and inquiries. This role is crucial for supporting the university's Institutional Compliance program, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and policies. The coordinator will help prevent, detect, and correct noncompliance, promote and monitor compliance activities, prepare reports, and coordinate compliance initiatives. Key tasks include triaging compliance issues, tracking work, generating reports, reviewing records for training, managing cases, preparing for meetings, coordinating the compliance hotline, and undertaking special projects. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, detail-oriented, and a problem solver, with strong written and spoken communication skills, adept at electronic work, including fast and accurate typing and proficiency in the Microsoft software suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.). A background in editing, writing, data analysis, or experience with laws, regulations, and policies is preferred. A JD, healthcare, and academic compliance experience are highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in compliance, legal, or audit; OR No experience with an Advanced degree, preferably a JD.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • JD degree preferred.
  • Strength in analyzing data in Excel is a plus.
  • A background in editing or writing articles, data-related work, and/or education or experience with laws, regulations, and policies is preferred.
  • JD, healthcare, and academic compliance experience are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, tracks, and coordinates mandatory compliance training programs to ensure that all UTHealth employees are knowledgeable of and comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations as well as university policies.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains up-to-date records and documentation of compliance activities, files, and findings. This includes helping to maintain compliance-related databases and files; ensuring accuracy, privacy, and data integrity.
  • Intakes, investigates, and reports on allegations of noncompliance received by the UTHealth Office of Institutional Compliance.
  • Stays informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. Monitors relevant statutes, regulations, and rules that impact compliance initiatives and brings them to the attention of the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Collaborates and supports enterprise risk management and other internal, regulatory teams, and offices in their identification, tracking, and monitoring of risks. This includes the development of annual risk work plans or other related projects and activities.
  • Collaborates to track and analyze compliance metrics and prepare regular reports.
  • Provides assistance to UTHealth employees about the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. This includes responding to compliance inquiries from internal stakeholders and assisting in addressing compliance-related issues.
  • Supports developing and delivering compliance communication materials to enhance employee awareness and understanding of compliance obligations. This includes working within Institutional Compliance webpages, developing or reviewing/revising compliance standards, procedures, and policies, and assisting with managing compliance-related documentation such as business processes, workflows, job aids, FAQs, and other process-related documentation or training materials.
  • Participates in compliance-related projects and initiatives, working closely with team members to achieve project goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
